UK tutor matching platform
Tutor matching, with every tutor vetted by our team
Search approved tutors by subject and area, or tell us what your child needs and we will match them with a vetted teacher, subject specialist or tutor with verified examiner experience. We also run small-group classes of 4 to 6.
Why choose us
Why choose GradeHarbour
Not just a list of tutors: a real person finds the right tutor for your child.
Matched by people, not a search box
We look at year group, exam board, goals and availability, then recommend up to three tutors and explain why.
Every tutor is checked
Identity, right to work, DBS and qualifications. Tutors with an enhanced DBS carry a badge.
Examiner experience verified
Any examiner experience a tutor claims must be backed by exam board documents before it appears on a profile.
English and Chinese
We talk with you in English or Chinese and understand the questions Hong Kong families face in the UK system, from 11+ to GCSE.
Clear fees, free to ask
Tutors show their hourly rate. We confirm any platform fee in writing before the first lesson, and rematch if the first lesson is not right.
Online or in person
Online lessons across the UK, in person in London, Manchester and Birmingham, plus group classes of 4 to 6.
How we check tutors
A person reviews every tutor before a family ever sees them
Tutors cannot publish their own profiles. We check each one, then match by hand using what you tell us about your child, their exam board and how they like to learn.
- Every tutor
Identity and DBS check
Photo ID and right to work checked; every tutor holds at least a basic DBS certificate.
- Every tutor
Qualifications and experience
Degree, QTS or teaching certificates, and teaching experience reviewed.
- Where held
Enhanced DBS shown on profile
Tutors with an enhanced DBS on the Update Service carry a badge, so you can choose.
- Where claimed
Examiner experience, checked separately
Board documents showing subject, role and years. Shown on a profile only once verified.
We never publish a tutor’s personal phone number. Families contact us, and we arrange lessons.
11+ and group classes
From the 11+ to GCSE, on one platform
As well as one-to-one GCSE tutors, we match families preparing for the 11+ grammar school test and run small-group classes of 4 to 6.
11+ grammar school entrance
Tutors for English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, plus test formats for grammar schools in London, Manchester and Birmingham.
11+ guideGroup classes of 4-6

Specialist focus
GCSE Chinese for Mandarin and Cantonese speakers
The exam is taken in Mandarin. Students from Cantonese-speaking homes often read well but need focused Mandarin speaking and listening practice. We match on teaching language, exam board and verified examiner experience.
| Paper | What is assessed | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Speaking | Mandarin role-play, photo card and conversation | 25% |
| Listening | Mandarin recordings; questions in English | 25% |
| Reading | Chinese texts and translation into English | 25% |
| Writing | Written tasks and translation into Chinese | 25% |
All four papers are sat at the same tier: Foundation (1–5) or Higher (4–9).
Find by learning need
Start from what your child needs help with
Catching up
For students who have fallen behind after a move, illness or a change of school. We look for tutors who are patient with foundations and can agree a realistic target with you.
Past-paper practice
For students who know the content but under-perform in exams. Tutors set timed papers from your child’s exam board and review them against the mark scheme.
Speaking exams
For GCSE Chinese and other languages. Regular role-play, photo-card and conversation practice in the exam language, with feedback on pronunciation.
Exam technique
Timing, reading the question, planning long answers and using command words. Tutors with verified examiner experience are especially suited to this.
Approved tutors
Profiles you can check before you commit
Every profile lists the checks we have completed and when. Examiner experience only appears after we have seen the documents.

How matching works
Three steps from request to first lesson
- 1
Tell us what you need
Subject, exam board, year group, online or in person, and anything we should know. It takes about five minutes.
- 2
We shortlist tutors
A member of our team checks availability and sends you up to three approved tutors with the reasons for each.
- 3
Try a first lesson
If the first lesson is not the right fit, tell us and we will suggest someone else.

How to use past papers properly
Past papers help most when they are used to find gaps. Doing paper after paper without reviewing them rarely changes a grade.
GCSE Chinese for Cantonese-speaking students
Many students from Hong Kong families read Chinese well but speak Cantonese at home. Here is what that means for the four GCSE papers.

How schools decide the tier, what each tier can lead to, and the questions worth asking at parents' evening.
AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR: exam boards explained
Why the board matters for revision, how to find which one your child sits, and what grades 9 to 1 mean.
Tell us what your child needs. We will do the searching.
A member of our team reads every request and replies with a shortlist of approved tutors, or an honest update if we need more time.
